This class is a special ‘in depth’ three and a half (3.5) hour class’ where you will learn all the basics of fluid art, and specifically learn 3 techniques in the one class. You will paint 3 paintings, using one of the 3 techniques. This is equivalent to 3 classes, in the convenience of one afternoon. Great if you have to travel to attend, or if you are keen to jump on in. You will explore paint consistency (the key to successful fluid art) and put this into practice through one technique using thin paint and two using thicker paint consistency. Two techniques include layering paint in the cup which you pour or on the canvas in one and the other a flip cup; in one technique you pour coloured paint directly on the canvas in a puddle or line. The techniques are:

1. Swipe – where you move thin paint over other paint to create unique small cells and lacing.
2. Ring Pour – where you layer paint in a cup and pour onto the canvas in a circular motion, creating amazing lines and effects.
3. Cells with silicone oil – where added silicone oil into the paint which is layered in a cup and then ‘flipped’ creating cells with rings of colour.

You will be introduced to fluid art principles and each of the three techniques will be demonstrated and explained. After some paint play and practice you will create each of your paintings on a 12 x16 inch (30x40cm) gallery wrapped canvas or similar which you can collect after 4 days drying time (or arrange to have sent to you). All instruction, support and materials are supplied.

You will learn:

• How to prepare your canvas
• How to mix paints and paint mediums suitable for each technique
• Which recipes are good for each technique and what difference this makes.
• How to choose colours and layer your paints on the canvas / cup.
• How to create beautiful cells and lacing in your art

All supplies provided including canvases, paint, pouring medium, cups, gloves, apron and tools. We provide plenty of space, with a maximum of 8 participants.

Light refreshments (tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits) provided. We use acrylic paint that is non toxic. Remember to wear old clothes as it can be a messy business, and whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do.
