STUDIO CLASSES FAQ

Live For Art offers two  types of classes.   The first is fluid art / acrylic pouring where paintings are ‘poured’ and no brushes used.  The second is a variety of styles of acrylic painting – both realism and expressionist style, where brushes are used.  All classes use non-toxic acrylic paint.

Generally standard classes cost between $60 (Acrylic Painting) to $80 (Fluid Art) (plus GST), depending on the style of art . Fluid art classes are more expensive than Acrylic Painting due to the higher cost and amount of materials used. There is an additional cost to some special fluid art classes due to additional materials or length of class eg ‘Bloom’ and ‘Super In Depth Class – 3 techniques’.

For Fluid Art (Adult Classes) – If you have a group of four or more people attending the one event, purchased together, you will receive a 5% discount. If you have a group of eight or more attending the one event, purchased together, you will receive a discount of 10%. Discounts will be automatically be applied at check out.

If you want to attend multiple events and book them at the same time, you will also receive the same discount.

Yes, we have gift vouchers available – check out our e-gift vouchers.

For individual classes in fluid art and acrylic painting, we provide all the materials – canvas, paint, mediums, brushes, palette, easel, gloves, containers and apron.

Where there is a set series of acrylic painting or fluid art, students are encouraged to bring some of their own supplies and a supply list is provided. These sessions encourage students to continue to work on their art at home, so having your own supplies will enable you to do that.

We also provide tea, coffee and water and supply a fridge, ice, glasses and plates for ‘paint and sip events’.

Classes are generally 2.5 hours unless otherwise specified. Experience has shown this is the optimum time required for most types of classes. If a fluid art technique or a specific painting style or event requires longer, we will make it clear in the event material before you book (eg Three techniques).
Children’s classes are generally 1.5 hours.

Doors open 10 minutes before the session commences. We ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes before the session so you can settle in, check in with the artist, get a cuppa or pour a drink and perhaps even start choosing your paint colours for fluid art.

Wear something that you feel comfortable and relaxed in. For fluid art we provide aprons to help protect your clothes, but it is best to wear old clothes, something you don’t mind getting a bit of paint on. Fluid art is messy! Since the paint mixture is fluid, it can easily splash or spill or you may lean over your painting and inadvertently put some part of your body in your creation (yes despite years of experience, Julie still does this!)

Whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do or you may not see you have paint on you. If you are coming from work, why not bring an old shirt to change into or cover yourself with. By mindful of loose necked jumpers, long sleeves and long hair. We suggest you tie you hair back for fluid art.

If you are doing a painting with a brush, acrylic paint dries quickly and you will be able to take your painting home with you.

If you are doing fluid art, the painting needs to dry flat and it takes 3 to 5 days before it is ready to move.

Due to space limitations, we ask that you collect your fluid art painting within 3 weeks.  If you need it to be posted, let us know and we can quote the price depending on the size of the canvas.

If canvases are left for more than 6 weeks, with no arrangements in place, we will recycle them.

Absolutely. If you book together, we will seat you together; if you book separately just let us know when you do your booking so we can ensure you are seated with your group. (Note that during Covid 19 restrictions, the maximum number of people in one section (4 tables) is 4 people unless you are a family group already living in the same house).

Due to space restrictions and to give our students the best experience, seats are reserved for painting customers only, sorry no observers. (If you are being picked up, your friend is welcome to come in and see what you have been up to)

We are a BYO venue only, so we don’t sell drinks, but provide tea, coffee and water. You can bring your own alcoholic drinks to paint and sip events (or check with us for events not labelled paint and sip). You can bring non-alcoholic drinks and nibbles to any event.

There are events specifically for children in School Holidays and on some Saturdays.

For events NOT labelled ‘paint and sip’, young people aged 16 to 17 are welcome to attend as participants.

For all Adult Classes, children 10 years or older are welcome to attend to participant (as paying participants) with their parents / adult supervision. Family participating together can be great fun.

Children are also welcome at private events.

Family members or friends are not able to attend as observers due to space limitations.
