This is a 5 week course to help you go deeper into fluid art and really develop your understanding and skills. Each weekly class is 3 hours where you will learn all the basics of fluid art, and specifically learn 7 different techniques (and variations within them). Using a thin paint consistency you will explore:

• Swipe – where you move thin paint over other paint to create unique small cells and lacing.
• Dutch Pour (Hairdryer) – also called an Air Swipe where you pour from a cup and use a hairdryer to move the paint and created stunning cells, blooms and effects. You will have the opportunity to do this technique on a spinner, do a wave and also a diptych painting (pair) in this style.
• Using a straw to create wispy looks and add additional features
• Pearl style – watch those magic pearl shaped cells pop up though the top layer of paint
• Cloud style – creating puffiness and cool effects
• Paint injection – for unique cobweb / lacing effect
• Sandwich Pour – so called because you sandwich paint between other layers of paint and create stunning lines and cells.

In addition to these techniques, you will learn about pouring mediums and additives and paint interactions, composition, colour theory, paint transparency and more. You will explore paint consistency (the key to successful fluid art) and put this into practice through a range of styles that utilise thinner paint.

This course is perfect for the beginner or those already exploring fluid art, who want to go more in-depth. These classes will generally use larger canvases than the regular classes and price includes a quality larger canvas on week 5 – a 20 x 30 inch OR 24 x 24 inch (thick edge quality canvas) OR a 24 x 36 inch thin edge canvas (or similar) OR 3 long canvas for a triptych.

All instruction, support, light refreshments and materials are supplied.

Supplies provided including canvases, paint, pouring medium, cups, gloves, apron and tools. We provide plenty of space, with a maximum of 8 participants.

Handouts for all techniques are provided.

We use acrylic paint that is non toxic. Remember to wear old clothes as it can be a messy business, and whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do.
