Over 2 weeks learn to paint in the style of Yayoi Kusama –  help you express your creativity and develop your acrylic painting skills. Based on feedback from previous classes, this course will be structured to help you understand the tools of painting and explore techniques before launching into painting your creation.

In these 2 x 2.45 hour classes, you will learn about different painting tools and brushes and how to use them to create the effects and styles of the artist being studied. The techniques will be demonstrated and you get to practice them before using them in create your painting. The painting is in the style of Yayoi Kusama – paint either ‘Pumpkin’ or ‘On the Ocean’. 

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who works in different medias.   A recurring motif in Yayoi Kusama’s work, and her best-loved and most iconic, the pumpkin represents a source of radiant energy for her.

The painting you will paint will be on a 40 x 50 cm canvas.

Behind every great piece of art, there is a good set of art tools that enables the artist to achieve the end result they envisioned. You will learn about these and how to use them in this class.

In this course you will:

  • Learn the essential tools for artists and how to work with them
  • Understand how to care for your paint brushes
  • Learn and practice various painting techniques including blending, various brush strokes, how to layer paint and more
  • Learn which brushes to use for different techniques
  • Practice on acrylic papers or panels
  • Create a large paintings on a 40 x 50 cm canvas or similar

You will be provided with acrylic paint, some acrylic papers to practice techniques and 0ne 40 x 50 canvas or similar. These are included in the cost.

We will provide paint brushes, but if you have some, it is best to bring your own.

Learn acrylic painting in a fun, relaxed, small class. No previous experience is required.

Acrylics are a fabulous medium as they are easy to work with, colours are vibrant, and they dry quickly.

Live For Art classes provide a supportive and friendly environment for students to build confidence and develop their art practice with guidance and feedback from their tutor.

Light refreshments (tea, coffee) provided.

This event is made up of two sessions, and builds on acrylic techniques and works together as a whole, it is not suitable to just do only one session.

The 2 session workshop is $132 (inc gst) (which is $66 a class).

Your Tutor – Setareh Hosseini  

Setareh is a visual artist who has exhibited internationally. As a child she was touched by her mothers art classes in a family where music and painting formed the atmosphere in the home. She has extensive experience teaching adults and children to be creative through a range of art forms. Setareh completed a Masters of Illustration in 2005 at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, Tehran, Iran. She also has a BA in graphic design and an MA in illustration.
