Going BIG – Pearl Pour
A new series of classes will enable students to paint larger paintings – this one is the Pearl Pour where we use Satin enamel paint to create magical unusual 3-D cells.
I get regular requests to create larger paintings, not surprising, our modern houses often need large size art to suit the walls and decor. Space in normal classes prevents this, so in these special ‘Going Big’ classes the participants are limited to 4 people to enable each person to have the space, and the support they need. It is assumed that participants will have already done a a previous fluid art class, although for this style that is not essential.
We will use good quality ‘deep edge’ canvas – generally Eraldo or Montmartre or similar. You choose the size from a range listed when you book, or you can bring your own canvas if your prefer.
NOTE:
- Some sizes may not be available if booking less than 1 week out – if the studio does not have them in stock, they need to be ordered.
- Contact Julie if you would like another size canvas to those listed.
- If you want to bring your own canvas, the booking here will only covers tuition and venue costs. Contact Julie for a quote for the paint and mediums relevant to the canvas size you have, you will pay for that separately (eg $54 for a 20 x 30 inch canvas up to $132 for a 42 x 42 inch canvas).
This fluid art technique is called a ‘Pearl Pour’ due to the unique pearl shapes that form when two layers of thin paint interact, especially when the special ingredient of Satin Enamel is added. In this class we will focus on the style using Satin enamel paint, that gives very different shapes, the style is influenced by Sarah Taylor. You can choose the classic white base or go for a multi colour base.
After some paint play and practice on small canvas, you will create your masterpiece on your chosen size canvas which you can collect after 3-4 days drying time. All instruction, support and materials are supplied. A handout will be emailed after the class.
This is a good technique to do on a larger canvas.Â
You will learn:
- How to prepare your canvas
- How to mix paints and paint mediums suitable for this technique
- Which recipes are good for this technique and what difference this makes
- How to choose colours and layer your paints on the canvas
- How to create beautiful ‘pearls’, cells and effects in your art
- Tips to manage paint on a larger canvas
All supplies provided including canvases (unless you choose option to bring your own), paint, pouring medium, cups, gloves, apron and tools. We provide plenty of space, with a maximum of 4 participants for this class.
Light refreshments (tea, coffee) provided.
We use acrylic paint that is non-toxic. Remember to wear old clothes as it can be a messy business, and whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do.
NOTICE RE COVID – Do not attend the class if you have or are a close primary contact of anyone with COVID-19, or if you are experiencing fever, chills or sweat, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose of have a loss of taste or smell. (A full refund will be provided if you are unwell).
