Fluid Art – Coasters Bloom style (Set of 6 or 12)
In this class, you’ll learn the ‘Bloom’ acrylic pouring technique and then paint 6 (or 12) ceramic coasters. After a demonstration from your teacher, you’ll get the chance to get creative with colours and techniques to create your own unique coaster designs. You will learn two styles of Bloom, blowing on the paint and swiping. It is also a great way get started and learn about the Bloom technique of fluid art.
NOTE we will be using 6 individual square or round coasters (with matching stick-on cork bases to apply when complete). If you would like to paint 12 coasters (2 x sets of 6) you can upgrade. Also available are black metal stands to hold your coasters with their own boxes, you can upgrade for an additional $5 per stand, see the optional ticket to purchase this. Your creations can be collected after 3 days drying time. All instruction, support and materials are supplied.
If you are keen to do more coasters, and choose the upgrade to 12 coasters, please allow another 30 mins of class time.
Note coasters need to be varnished or resined to make them waterproof and suitable for use with hot or cold drinks. Information will be given about this or you can attend a resin class.
You will learn:
- How to prepare your coasters
- How to mix paints and paint mediums suitable for these techniques
- The specific recipes needed this technique and what difference this makes
- How to choose colours and layer your paints in the cup or on the coaster
- How to mix pigments
- How to create beautiful cells or lacing in your art (without silicone oil)
All supplies provided including canvases, paint, pouring medium, cups, gloves, and tools. We provide plenty of space, with a maximum of 8 participants. Light refreshments (tea, coffee) provided. We use acrylic paint that is non-toxic. Remember to wear old clothes as it can be a messy business, and whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do.
What time will you need – if doing a set of 6 allow 1.5 to 2 hours, if doing 12 allow 2.5 hours.
Do not attend the class if you have or are a close primary contact of anyone with COVID-19, or if you are experiencing fever, chills or sweat, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose of have a loss of taste or smell. (A full refund will be provided if you are unwell).
