Do you love nature? This two week course is an introduction to using leaves and flowers to print with. We will explore a few techniques to create beautiful art on both canvas and paper.

Friday 11th and 18th September 7pm to 9pm (you need to attend both sessions as one technique requires drying between layers, so will be completed over both weeks).

We will:

  1. Gradually build up a painting using layers of prints from leaves and thin glazes on a 12 x 16 inch (30 x 40cm) back stapled thin edge canvas.
  2. Create prints on paper with flowers and leaves both directly and using the gelli plate – a wonderful gelatinous substance that holds and releases paint in different ways, allowing us to build up layers on the paper. We will use a variety of papers including tissue paper, rice paper, copy paper and teabag paper. We will end up with great papers which we can use to create cards, book marks or collage with.
  3. Enhance one of our printed papers with embellishments and marks to get it to your desired finished look and ready for framing (framing not included).

You will learn:

  • A variety of ways to print from leaves and flowers
  • How to create transparent glazes to change the colour of a painting and add depth
  • An introduction to using a gelli plate and brayer
  • How to build up botanical layers in your art
  • How to use everyday house hold items for printing

All supplies provided including canvases, paper, acrylic paint, gloves, apron and tools. We will provide some leaves and flowers, but you are also encouraged to bring some if you can (instructions will be emailed before the class). We provide plenty of space, with a maximum of 8 participants.

Light refreshments (tea, coffee) provided.

We use acrylic paint that is non toxic. Remember to wear old clothes as it can be a messy business, and whilst the paint and mediums will wash out if you get to it quickly, that is not always easy to do.

Do not attend the class if you have or are a close primary contact of anyone with COVID-19, or if you are experiencing fever, chills or sweat, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose of have a loss of taste or smell. (A full refund will be provided if you are unwell).
